POLYPOSIS AND CHRONIC SINUSITIS

Polyposis and chronic sinusitis

Nasal polyps

Dr. Dragonetti treats nasal polyps in Milan: although it is not a serious disorder, it often undermines the well-being of those who suffer from it.

Nasal polyps are a very widespread problem: they are soft sacs that obstruct the nasal cavities, preventing normal breathing, as well as the ability to smell.

The roots of the polyps are in the sinuses.

Diagnosis

A diagnosis of nasal polyps from Dr. Dragonetti in Milan is based on the following clinical and specialist tests:

  • rhinoscopic examination, to visualise any nasal polyps;
  • nasal endoscopic examination, allows us to painlessly explore the hidden regions of the nose;
  • CT scan of the facial mass, aimed at assessing the extent of the disorder;
  • magnetic resonance, to exclude the presence of other issues;
  • pneumological testing, used if the patient has asthmatic pulmonary disorders, often accompanied by nasal polyps.

Chronic sinusitis

Sinusitis is inflammation of the sinuses visible on a CT scan. Its chronic form is caused by irreversible damage within the ventilation channels of the sinuses.
The condition ebbs and flows between active and seemingly dormant phases.
